Grief

Oh, to have those halcyon days of our youth when sickness,  death,  were things that happened to grown ups, adults. As we get older, we all know that loss is an inevitable part of life.  We realize that we are now the grown ups,  the adults.  And, with this realization we also come to know grief.

Today, my good friend's husband died very suddenly, very unexpectedly.  A career military man, with many decorations for active duty during wartime he retired not too many years ago, still a young man, in the prime of his life.  He walked two daughters down the aisle on their wedding days.   He also got to hold each of his three beautiful grandsons when they were just hours old. He got to spend lots of time playing boy stuff with those three little guys.

My friend told me her heart is broken. They were married for more than 30 years.

 My heart aches for her.

  1. Oh how tragic, I am so sorry. But your friend is blessed to have her family, and you, to lift her up.

  4. I've had quite a bit of grief in my life. At times I think more than my fair share, but no one ever said that life would be fair. Your friend will be OK...it will just take time.

  5. I'm so sorry to read this. Your friend will need friends over the next while - to listen, to let her rage and cry and just be there. What a tragedy.
