Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack
All dressed in black, black, black
With silver buttons, buttons, buttons
All down her back, back, back
She asked her mother, mother, mother
For fifty cents, cents, cents
To see the elephants, elephants, elephants
Jump over the fence, fence fence
They jumped so high, high, high
They touched the sky, sky, sky
And didn't come back, back, back
Till the fourth of July, July, July!

J is for jump rope! And, that was my favorite jump rope song when I was little!
After the jumper finished the song's last line, she would say "How many elephants came back back, back" and she would then count as she jump rope as fast as she could jump until she missed! Whoever counted the highest number of 'elephants' won that round.

I jumped to this rhyme with I was little.
ReplyDeleteThis was my kids favorite jump rope rhyme. This brought back some lovely memory.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I have not heard that song in a long time. And I actually got out a jump rope two weeks ago--it was not as much fun as I remember.
ReplyDeleteFun childhood memories. I wish I could remember even half of the jumprope songs we knew!
ReplyDeletenever heard this all the way through -- thank you for pointing out that it's a jump rope rhyme (our daughter used to sing this all the time!)
ReplyDeleteAhhh...the good old days before video games and facebook...
ReplyDeleteI know this one too when my kids were younger. It was one of my favorites, and it brought back great memory.
ReplyDelete(On a different matter, I don't know why when I click on your VBR ID, it won't allow me to see your blog. Thus, I couldn't find you to return your kindness.
I think you will have to enable your blog to be public in the settings, unless that's not what you want!)
what a fun post! :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I took me a bit to figure out, but then I was never any good at jump rope anyway, I always got tangled up. -- Thanks Bill
ReplyDeleteIts a nice song. I hadn't heard it and for sure with more girls than boys in our one room school I though I knew all the jump rope songs.
ReplyDeleteJumping rope is good exercise. One of my sons can jump for an hour without stopping. I hope you still do it.

You have rekindled memories of my own childhood! Oh how I loved to jump rope! What a fun memory to share! Thank you today!
ReplyDeleteI spent hour after hour when I was young playing jumprope with other children but, I must admit, this is a new rhyme to me. Other pasttimes for us in our little North Dakota town included jacks (my favorite by far!), chinese jump rope, and a ball game called seven-up.
ReplyDeleteI remember 7 up!!!! Played that too!
ReplyDeleteJim, if I jumped rope for 1 hour straight, I would no longer be breathing. I think I could possible jump rope for 3 minutes (and would need Oxegen!!!!
I remember that Jump-rope song...
ReplyDeleteI used to have so much fun jumping rope to that!
Thanks for the reminder of a Joyful memory...
Great Job!
