Delightful Daylilies!

Every year I go to the big garden center sale in July.  I make a bee-line for one table - the Tidewater Daylily Society!  There the Society offers rhizomes/corms? of old favorites, new and improved varieties and the newest offerings in the daylily world.   Once I have purchased my slips I go home and start digging.  Then, I have to wait until next year to see the blossoms.  So, each summer I have an ongoing show of daylilies that I bought the year before.  These are some of this years crop.  I am sorry I can't give you names - we have Maggie Poodle to thank for that.  I plant the things, I put the little tags into the ground by each plant so I can identify it and when I go inside Maggie likes to take the little plastic signs and tosses them all over the yard.   BUT! This year I have a plan.  I am going to start writing the names on a garden map.   So, next year's lilies will not be nameless!!

There are two daylilies that I am waiting for.  So far,no buds.  They are named Bela Lugosi and Nosferatu - both are dark purple almost black.  When they bloom I will post pics of them.

  4. I love daylilies and these are lovely!
I'm thinking I should take photos of my garden plants and write their names next to them. I have the same issue--not with Maggie Poodle of course! but signs do get lost/misplaced or just plain disappear.

You might want to know this, but when you comment on my blog and I click on your name to come visit you, it goes to a link that says "profile not available."

  6. Beautiful flowers - well worth the wait. Maybe some expert out there will know their names. Good idea to make a map. We just joined a community garden and I'm looking forward to learning about all of the plants there. It is a vegetable/fruit garden, but we planted a few native wildflowers to make it beautiful - and the seeds of these are edible. Enjoy!

  7. Daylillies are so delightful.

They were one of my favorite flowers to grow when I lived back east.

I've not had any luck growing them in Arizona, but I do know gardeners who have found ways to help them survive.

It will be fun to see what colors those two bloom in.

Thanks for sharing your green thumb with us.

    A+
