Flapdoodle!
FLAPDOODLE, noun - foolish words, nonsense
Yes, my word for letter F is FLAPDOODLE. I heard that word twice yesterday, on TV, (I have a secret vice - I am a fiend (f word!) for westerns and cowboy movies. Ever since I was a little girl for some reason cowboys just fascinated (f word!) me. I could be outside in the yard playing happily, only to hear "Rollin' rollin' rollin', keep them doogys rollin''... and I would be in the house in a flash (f word!). Parking myself in front of the TV, for the next hour I would be mesmerized by the site of Gil Favor, Rowdy Yates, Wishbone....Rawhide! Wishbone uttered the f word. Flapdoodle. Then, there was Gunsmoke -Festus (f word!) uttered the f word too, - Flapdoodle.
Flapdoodle - for some reason this word just tickles me. I like when a word is pretty much self-explanatory and flapdoodle fits the bill. Flap being a term for big fuss, and doodle for mindless scribbling, foolish little doo-dad.
Flapdoodle keeps very good company with words like balderdash, blatherskite, bunkum, claptrap, codswallop, drivel, fiddle-faddle (another of Festus' favorite words), malarkey, nerts, piffle, taradiddle and twaddle. All wonderful ways to express one of those moments when you cannot beleive what you are hearing, seeing, thinking or feeling!
Flapdoodle, that about sums up my post for Alphabe-Thursday this week!.
And!!!
Because this is F is for week I will now provide a FREEBIE extra F is for!
F is for French Word a Day - http://french-word-a-day.typepad.com/motdujour/ -
And the word of the day over there is -
fouiller (foo-ee-ay)
: to rummage through someone else's stuff (often unbeknownst to them!)
French Word a Day can be viewed via the blog at the above link or you can subscribe to the enewsletter and get it in your mailbox. Each entry features a word of the day, an anecdote about the writers life in France and some of the most gorgeous photos I have seen (especially any one that features dogs!!)
Hope you enjoy your visit there.
- FINI - (final f word!)
