It's Banned Book Week - Sept 25 - Oct 2

What do the Harry Potter series, Of Mice and Men, An American Tragedy, The Giver, The Bridge to Terrabithea, Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings have in common? They are all listed on Banned Book lists somewhere in the United States.

Be naughty, be defiant, be contrary, be curious, be informed - read a banned book this week!

My favorite banned book is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Stop by and leave a comment about your favorite banned book.

Here are two ATCs made for A Banned Book swap -

  2. Hi there! Evidently, if a book is challenged as being offensive or objectionable for whatever reason, a library, a school or other institution may opt to delete the book from their catalog of titles.

  3. Vera, I checked out some books yesterday, but none were on the banned list:) In my freshman year of high school, I read a book called The Methusalah Enzyme. Now out of print -- am I dating myself or what?! I remember going to the librarian and telling her I thought the book should be banned from high schoolers because I thought, in my strict fundamentalist mind set, that there were scenes too sexually graphic. Despite that, 40 years later, I've never forgotten the evolution of the character within the story. I'm glad the book was never banned:)
