M is for Medals, and Much ado about nothing.

Today, AlphabeThursday's letter M is going to be about Medals and a whole lotta mess about something that is so silly in the scheme of things.
Young Gabby Douglas of Virginia Beach, VA was the all around  gold medalist at this  years Olympics Women's Gymnastics.  As viewers, we get to sit in our cushy little chairs at home and review the brief times Gabby and the other young women had to show the judges what they were made of.  We see a 5 or so minute routine that took years, years and hard work, and sacrifice by the gymnast and their loved ones, constant training and focus to acheive, to perfect.  Stamina, focus, determination, goals, work ethic, sacrifice - pretty lofty words to be able to apply to a 16 year old girl.

So, what does all this have to do with much ado about nothing?  It's Gabby's hair. Yes, I said it correctly, Gabby's hair.   That there are some people who actually have the presence of mind to make negative comments about her hair makes me want to - hurl. (This is a word I absolutely despise. So, this may give you an idea of how strongly I feel about this.)
What exactly is not correct about her hairstyle during her competitions?  It is neat, it is off of her face and not able to fly about and possibly distract her concentration?  Long flowing hair is not really a great idea when one is involved in a complex gymnastic routine.

To those who feel her hair somehow makes her 'less than'....I say -

Gabby Douglas looked just fine at the Olympics. She looked so fine in fact, she was GOLDEN -twice!

  1. Nice "M" word post, V.B. ~~ Our house is very proud of Gabby Girl and would adopt her so we could be her third family if that would be possible. A whole lot of others also fell in love with this young lady.

Who cares about her hair? Only the ones that are put out that this young lady can do something that they can't. Besides with her hair up she looks wonderful.

  2. The FabFive were amazing. You are so right...their dedication and the sacrifices made by them and their families are so much more noteworthy than petty negatives that unfortunately are a part of every successful endeavor. Definately....Gabby Is Golden!!!!

  4. I agree. Too much pettiness in the world.

  5. Sadly it seems that instant media has made it too easy to have no moral or compassionate guidance when running off at the mouth.

It's sad that so many seek to destroy so much for no reason.

    I agree with you.

Bullying and just being nasty seems to be turning into an epidemic.

Thank you for the thought provoking link to the letter 'M'.

    A+
